Picking what to wear for photos can be daunting! There are so many different options or color palettes to choose from. Here are a few helpful things to keep in mind.
START WITH MOM
First, pick an outfit that you love and feel good in. Flowing dresses are my go to suggestion – they flatter any body type and add movement and whimsy to your photos.
COORDINATE, DON’T MATCH
Pick a color palette you love and choose 2-3 solid colors for every pattern. Avoid perfectly matching, and instead coordinate. I suggest muted colors, and subtle prints so your eyes are
drawn to your beautiful faces rather then distracted by neon colors and bold prints.
TIMELESS OVER TRENDY
What do you want to look at on your walls for years to come? Also take into consideration your home design and colors – what outfits will go with your esthetic and add to your home design?
LAYERS & TEXTURES
Think chunky sweaters, whimsical scarfs, flowing dresses, lace, ruffles, smocking, cardigans, vests, bow ties, suspenders… Layering up and adding different textures will bring visual interest to your photos.
HAIR & MAKEUP
Moms, you may want to treat yourself and get your hair and makeup done professionally. This looks stunning in photos, and also makes the photo experience more special.
BONUS TIP: STYLE ACCORDING TO THE SESSION LOCATION
Keep your session location in mind when choosing your outfit and look for complementary colors. For example, fi you know there is going to be a lot of green foliage around you, consider avoiding green in your color palette. Find colors and textures that are going to complement the session location, and separate you from the surrounding scenery.
(tip: lighter, neutral colors are a favorite for standing out in our green TN scenery!)
So there you have it, a few things to keep in mind when planning your photo session and what to wear. And don’t forget, you can always reach out if you have any questions along the way!
